The Numbers Are Up!

Numbers are Up for Mobile App Downloads

Be prepared for your mind to be blown—unless, of course, you’ve discovered this information already.  Drum roll please….according to Flurry Analytics, there were approximately—wait for it—1.2 billion mobile app downloadsduring the last week of 2011.

It just goes to show you that the mobile app market continues to strengthen, with more people upgrading to smart phones each day.

So what can you do with this information?  Keep in mind that although the peak in downloads shows a growing trend of smart phone users, it also reflects a little holiday cheer.  Santa and Hanukkah Harry likely delivered a hefty load of new phones, iPods, iTunes gift cards and Amazon certificates this season, burning fiery little holes into their recipients’ pockets.

However, the popularity of smart phones, and our tendency to try to one-up each other by having the coolest and most convenient new apps, means that mobile apps aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.  This is good news for you and presents a convincing argument for why your clients should be creating mobile apps for their businesses.  Add into the mix the idea that your customers’ apps could be publicizing their companies 24-7 in the pockets of smart phone users everywhere, and it should be a snap for you to close the deal.

And speaking of snaps, the cold snap of winter is the perfect time for your clients’ mobile apps to be developed, what with smart phone users less willing to brave the elements and visit their businesses in person or (heaven forbid) use the energy needed to actually call them.  You and your clients can profit from winter laziness, so cite the peak in mobile app downloads above to help boost your sales.
Finally, make sure you really pump up the encouragement for your clients to sign on for mobile apps next Christmas – heck, start laying the persuasion on thick by Black Friday so you can both reap the benefits of consumers’ open wallets.
